Speed Insiders was designed to give members the inside track on all of Lee’s famous techniques, strategies and research findings. Throughout the programs he has had hundreds of members, but perhaps there is one that is the Ultimate Speed Insider.
Ty Terrell has been shadowing Lee as an intern for almost a year now and not only learns from Lee’s Speed Insiders program, but also learns first-hand from Lee.
“I have been interning with Lee for about a year now and am making the transition to training athletes full time. Lee has been a tremendous help in guiding me through this last year of learning the training industry, Ty said. “He is always willing to put extra time in the gym as well as being accessible for me to ask questions. His passion to improve the health and fitness level of those around him shines through in his work.”
Ty, who lives in New Castle where Lee is located, is a performance coach focusing on movement combined with strength training. He also has spent time as an assistant basketball coach at Hagerstown High School. In addition to working with Lee, Ty is working on the IYCA level I youth speed and agility certification with plans of earning the level 2 in February.
Ty’s training philosophy places a great emphasis on keeping athletes safe and healthy. “I want to put young athletes in a position to max out their potential all while doing it in a safe format. It does not matter how good of an athlete you are if you are injured.” Ty added, “I like a controlled aggressive style of training.”
Ty really enjoys seeing his athletes succeed and build self-confidence. One of the most rewarding parts for Ty is watching as a young athlete finally “gets it” after working at a particular skill. “The athlete is excited which in turn gets me excited about training. I enjoy seeing athletes progress as much as anything,” Ty explained.
As a high school student, he played basketball at New Castle Chrysler High School (home of the world’s largest high school fieldhouse) then went on to played basketball at Indiana University East in Richmond, Ind. for a year. Ty is currently enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University studying accounting.
