Jeff Patten, owner of Athletic Conditioning Center, Inc., has been in the fitness industry for more than 10 years and has spent the majority of those years working with children and young adults. His athletic development facility, located in Coventry, Rhode Island, primarily serves athletes ages 10 to 20, but also serves children ages 2 to 9 and adults.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Leisure Management with a specialization in Health and Fitness and also earned his master’s in Human Movement. His certifications include NASM PES, IYCA Level 2, and USSF D (soccer).
With a Training Philosophy focus on the “WHOLE” approach, movement mastery and teaching, Jeff has had great success. He also believes in always having fun and doing the right thing.
His “WHOLE” approach places the primary emphasis on the actual conditioning, but with an understanding that other components play a huge role in the performance of an individual. The other components are nutritional, mental, emotional, spiritual, and rest/recovery. In addition, movement mastery is the key to increased performance whether it is in a squat, with the actual skill, or an agility exercise.
“I always have fun,” Jeff said. “If you are not having fun then you really should find something else to do.”
“By doing the right thing I will always make decisions that I will be able to look back and be happy with myself that I did the right thing and not the thing that others wanted me to do or the thing that offered benefit to me but maybe detrimental to others,” Jeff added.
Jeff is quick to point out that he is a teacher, not a trainer. “I never liked the word training because I teach the athletes I work with to move better without me being there,” Jeff explained. “By teaching them the hows and whys, they can make corrections on their own.”
Jeff’s favorite part of being a Speed Insider is the information. He loves soaking up the new information every month from leaders in the fitness industry.
