The phrase “Life is a Journey” could not be more evident than it is today. Today is the 13th birthday of my oldest child, Jae.
She has travelled through life for discovering new and different experiences. She learns each day what life is really about. Life, as wonderful and fascinating as it can be, can be a challenging and sometimes painful place. But as the saying goes, “It is the journey that we learn from.” It is the day-to-day experiences, the feedback, the love, the scary times, and it is the relationships that build a foundation of what life means to us.
Jae is 13 years old now. She has 13 years of experiences in which her foundation has been built on. It is this foundation which will help her build upward and outward as the next 13 years unfold before her.
My wife and I have also followed a journey of discovery as Jae went through her first years. We have learned a lot about not only raising a daughter, but also about ourselves as parents and caregivers.
The foundation my wife and I have built from the journey will help us raise our other two children. Hopefully, we will do a better job in some areas and do exactly what we did with Jae in others.
Happy Birthday, Jae!
Mom, Dad, Bailee, and Brennen
P.S. Here are a few funny sayings about teenagers that I found floating around the Internet. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
-A teenager is always too tired to hold a dishcloth, but never too tired to hold a phone.
-Mothers of teenagers know why animals eat their young.
-Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-o to a tree.
-Teenage is the age when one feels they have inherited all the world s wisdom
-Teenager with nose rings, baggy clothing and spiked hair to a friend: “I don t really like dressing this way, but it keeps my parents from dragging me everywhere they go.”

Congratulation Lee and Happy Birthday to your daughter Jae.
Happy Birthday young lady! Congratulations to you and your family! Love the quotes. I have a 16 year old daughter, oh how true those quotes can be.
Lee, congratulations on having such a beautiful “young lady” for a daughter. I’ve seen her in some of your videos from time to time and often thought “you have such a great relationship with your daughter”.
I too celebrated my daughter Jaden’s 13th birthday yesterday Aug. 31. She is the third of my 4 kids and even though I’ve celebrated my older two 13th Jadens was a bit different. I actually did some planning, I went online looking for “cookiegrams” and balloon arrangements. I somehow felt the significants of this birthday and knew I needed to involved myself enough to make a memorable impact.
I actually made a trip to the party depot and picked-out balloons to arrange in a bouquet for her. I later showed up at the door and surprised her with them – I know she really appreciated it. It was priceless!! It was really great getting involved in my daughter’s birthday and not just sitting back while her mom took care of everything.
So, I can really relate to how proud you are of Jae because I’m just as proud of my Jaden.
Take care…Dad power!!
Hi Coach, Happy birthday to your daughter. i agree with everything including the wisdom(tidbits) on them. i got two boys myself & i sometimes wonder why they waste so much energy on unnecessary things but its all due to peer pressure i think. all of them almost dress up the same way & ride their bikes with out helmets! saving hair is the motto. now i know why “Mothers of teenagers know why animals eat their young.” ha ha, god bless
Thanks so much everyone! We always appreciate the support you give us. Have a great weekend!
