I want to take a moment to gloat and congratulate my nephew, Jimmer Fredette, a junior point guard at BYU. He just came off a 49 point performance win over Arizona. This was preceded by being named the MVP of the Las Vegas Basketball Classic, in which he averaged 28.5 points in the tourney.
What really makes me so proud and excited is to learn he was named the Oscar Robertson National player of the week through Jan. 3rd. This is a huge honor and Jimmer deserves it. He works extremely hard and always has.
This week Jimmer was named a candidate for the John Wooden Award, which is the most prestigious award in college basketball.
I remember Jimmer hanging around my workouts when he was 6 years old. He always wanted to get in on the drills. His older brother and sister would be training in a group and Jimmer was right there waiting for his turn.
From the early age he has never stopped being motivated to be the best he could be. I have no doubt he is just going to keep getting better. The reason is because he wants to and he has a plan.
P.S. – Jimmer has performed all of the drills and skills in my basketball video training set. Basketball Speed teaches coaches how to teach their players to become better movers on the court, www.MyBasketballSpeed.com.

Hey Lee…you should be proud my friend…what an honor! But what do you expect…he was taught by the best.
Aloha Lee,
A well deserved honor!!! On New Years Eve, our family along with 3 others went over to Ken and Kathy’s home, who lives right off of Pipeline Beach. Ken, my son Nehoa (who is a senior and plays basketball for me at Kahuku H.S.) and myself were just talking about your nephew and what a player he is but Ken mentions to us that the thing about Jimmer is that he is as nice a kid and a humble kid as they come. But he also works his tail off. Ken is well connected with one of the A.D.s at BYU and gets all the scoops. My son went to BYU’s summer camp and everyone always brought Jimmers name up.
Yes, even in Hawaii we are talking about your nephew, and yes he is a role model in our community because of the BYU ties and especially the sports world. We have alot of our H.S. players that go to BYU for football and other sports. Jimmer also plays in a program that lets him excel. My 2nd son, Kawika also played for Dave Rose at Dixie College.
Congrats!!!
Hiram
Thank you Lee for those kind words you said about Jimmer and I really appreciated the other comment from Hiram about Jimmer’s character. That thrills me more than anything as Jimmer’s mother. Jimmer actually reminds me of Lee so much sometimes when he is out on the court. They have some of the same mannerisms. All of my brothers were terrific point guards as well as my other son, so it is in Jimmer’s blood. He had the benefit of learning from all of them. Lee has been so good to Jimmer all of his life because he had the patience with him as a very young kid wanting to always butt in the workouts. Lee never turned him away and gave up his time all those years to teach him the proper way to train and always explained why he should apply each action. I would say it definitely paid off. Thank you Lee. Jimmer can’t wait to see you soon.

Thanks everyone!
Jimmer is a fun athlete to watch. I have always talked about how important it is to play many sports growing up. What many people don’t know is that Jimmer was a fist team All-State wide receiver in football and one of the top young baseball players in the state. His love for basketball carved out his current path but I believe we could have seen him playing any sport. I feel the same way about all my nieces and nephews- Of course i am a proud uncle
