I am sure you have had real strong cravings or addiction like behavior before. You know, when you just can’t stop thinking of it. For me, it use to be ice cream. As a kid growing up in New York, we always had dessert after a meal. Ice cream was my favorite.
Ice cream was a craving for me. I wouldn’t call it an addiction. It wasn’t like I had to have it, but I sure did want it when I thought about it. I have not had ice cream since the late 90’s. During that time period I completely changed how I consumed food. Food became nutrition to me, like it is meant to be. What really made it easy for me to change my eating behavior is I associated poor eating with poor physical and mental feelings. I didn’t feel good after eating junk foods or sweets.
Around this time, I also researched the harmful effects of un-natural foods. It became simple and clear. If I wanted to live a physically clean life I needed to stop any bad nutritional habits. So I did.
If the feelings are strong enough you can do anything. I love life and love feeling great. When I associated poor eating with not feeling good and enjoying life as much it was easy for me to change.
It becomes difficult to do when you don’t truly associate the poor eating habits with the damage it is causing your body and your happiness. Eating is nutrition for the body. Yes, you should enjoy your food and not be so strict you don’t enjoy eating. But you do not have to drink soda, eat cupcakes, stop at fast food restaurants, or choose a bag of chips over a bag of apples. You should enjoy eating well.
This idea goes along with all parts of your life. If you are not happy with parts of your social, personal, business, or spiritual life you can change these as well. The key is to know what you want and associate negative habits to not allowing you to have the things you really want.
People find it hard to believe that I have not had ice cream, soda, or fast foods in over a decade. Yet, I have never taken drugs. I don’t rob banks… there are lots of negative behaviors I don’t do because I know they are bad. But it is very difficult for most to associate poor nutrition as BAD. Well it is!! I love life and want to feel great.
New Years is a time for making positive change. What are you going to do this year to make you love life more and feel great?
