I came back home Saturday evening from attending at a 3 day seminar. I love going to seminars and learning. What I don’t like is coming back and having to catch up on all the work I left behind. I normally have many emails to respond to, blogs and articles to write, and programs to create. Not to mention other business tasks to catch up on.
After getting back home Saturday evening I decided to hook my computer up and work a little. I turned it on and waited.. waited… waited some more. I finally said to my wife, “I don’t think my computer is working!” She re-booted it..NOTHING! It was gone. The next day she purchased a new computer. Great! I can now start writing my articles and blogs, answering emails and working on programs. Thank goodness I had backed up my files, but I soon found out I didn’t backup my Outlook files. I lost all my contacts. All my contacts and their information are stuck in my old computers memory. Hopefully my old computer can be fixed and I can retrieve that information back .
How many of you have back up plans for your practice plans and training sessions? Last night a girl came to a training session with a sore back. The training plan I had written wasn’t going to “fly’ with her. She was able to do some exercises I had planned but not all. I had to quickly go to a back up plan and give her some safe exercises that protected her back and possibly helped in the recovery of her pain…or at least not cause more.
If you were to look at my daily training lesson form, you would see a section for the skill I want to work on, the drill I will use to focus on that skill and a third column for modifications or back up plans if the original plan doesn’t work. This back up plan could be for the entire group or it could be for the lesser experienced athletes. The key is to always have a plan to cover your self in case the original plan isn’t going to work.
What’s the saying…. “Failing to plan is like planning to fail”.
Do you have a back up plan?
