If you have followed me for any length of time, then you know why I don’t like machine training. In my opinion, it is very simple to understand all the benefits of non-machine training and all the detriments they cause. I believe this to be true with adults, but most definitely true with kids.
I could go on and on about how machine training messes up the natural balance between stability and mobility development and interaction. I found an article that makes ten great points as why using a Smith Machine is bad. I am not only limiting my dislike of machines to the Smith Machine, but because so many people think it is more like free weight training I wanted to share this article.

My hope is that it makes you realize true strength and fitness are given to us in the greatest machine ever built- the human body!

Great post Lee! I agree 110 % with the anti-machine training philosophy. I train athletes at a high school primarily filled with machines. Not 1 movement in my exercise prescription includes the use of the machines. Posts and article like this one help me rest assured I am looking out for the developing athletes best interest and safety.
Thank you,
